Important Information Regarding Plebes - Plebe Summer and First Semester
The following regulations regarding Plebe Summer
and the first semester of Plebe Year are provided for your information
and advance planning:
1. During Plebe Summer, Midshipmen are unavailable for visiting. This
includes during chapel services. Exceptions can be made for
emergencies; contact your midshipman's company officer.
2. The mailing of "care packages" to Midshipmen Fourth Class is
encouraged. However, the items should be single-serving, nonperishable,
and able to fit in a shipping container no larger than a shoe box to
facilitate storage and handling. Packages must be sent via mail; no
packages will be accepted at Main Office for delivery to midshipmen.
3. Midshipmen Fourth Class are required to sit with the Brigade of Midshipmen during home football games.
Please do not purchase tickets for them.
4. During the Academic Year, Midshipmen Fourth Class are normally authorized town liberty on Saturday afternoons and evenings.
5. Any Midshipman Fourth Class who requests a sponsor will be assigned one during Plebe Summer.
Sponsors are local families who volunteer to provide a "home away from home" for midshipmen.
6. Per Midshipmen Regulations, no Midshipman Fourth Class (regardless
of age) is permitted to drink alcoholic beverages unless they are on
authorized leave from the Naval Academy.
7. The Army-Navy Football game is currently scheduled for Saturday,
December 6, 2008 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.. The
date is subject to change due to network television requirements.
Midshipmen Fourth Class will be bused back to the Academy following
completion of the game.
8. Thanksgiving and Christmas are leave periods. Only those midshipmen
who have lost leave as a result of conduct offenses or a Physical
Education deficiency will be required to remain at the Academy. Those
who are professionally or academically deficient and appearing before
the Academic or Advisory Board may be required to return early from
Christmas leave. Military duties and obligations frequently change. It
is the responsibility of your son or daughter to ensure the dates and
times of leave periods are correct and approved by their chain of
command prior to buying a plane ticket.
Anticipated commencement and expiration dates for these leave periods are as follows:
Thanksgiving Leave: Commence 1 p.m., Nov. 26, Expire 6 p.m., Nov. 30, 2008
Christmas Leave: Commence After last exam Dec. 18, Expire 6p.m., Jan TBD, 2009

Box information is not required in the mailing address during Plebe
Summer, although they will receive their P.O. Box assignments early in
the summer. Upon the completion of Plebe Summer, you must include your
